Interesting Thing with Google Maps

Looking to find a route for cycling to Hagan-Stone Park, which is about 10 miles away from downtown Greensboro, I asked Google Maps. But even with the "Avoid highways" box checked, it insists on sending me down US 421, which is a 4-lane divided limited-access numbered US highway and certainly not something I'm going to do on my bike. Here's the map:

I rode down there last Sunday using two-lane country roads and it was mostly a very nice ride and not much difference in distance versus using the highway. (I'm still playing with different route-plotting options, or else I'd post a link to my route here.) But I was disappointed that Google did so badly at it. I've come to expect better from them. Maybe sometime and somehow the above link will eventually give a better route.
