Northshore finish 2007
On the way to the starting line I could see light flakes of snow blowing by. The temp was 28 degrees with a 10-15 mph head wind. YUK
I finally completed my first full marathon. I've skated 4 halfs this summer, but the Northshore is my first 26.2.
My goal time was under 2 hours and be in the top 1000 finishers.... results were less than I expected (2:10 and #1128/2590). Since this was my first marathon I started in wave 7. I was forced in the ditch by a skater not paying attention (I yelled 'passing left' and she moved left), lost a minute or two and some PRIDE, all before the first mile. I must have passed a thousand skaters.
My feet didn't hurt like I expected, but by mile 18 my ankles were feeling shaky. At mile 22, I saw a BONT pro skating back thru the field taking pictures and encouraging all the rec skaters. What a sport, how many other sports have pros taking the time to help the newbies.
Here is todays newspaper report [with deference to copyright we'll include only a portion]:

Congratulations on your first full Marathon
Awesome North Shore Inline Marathon Wayne, Plus Links
Thanks for the report, Wayne. As for disappointment, sounds like
For your first (or any) marathon, that's great goal-setting, and quite a good mph I'd add. You can bet that starting further up front would make a huge difference, getting in where you are passing less often and passed less often and in-pack much more...but if you have to choose, pick passing less often as it takes more energy from you.
Thanks for the news story. I shortened it and put in a link so those guys that provided it can get some traffic and to respect their copyright, but it was a nice article and thanks again. Here are some more links, including a video news story (always interested in the oldest and most challenged human interest story, but ok, it's coverage; and only because the reporter participated, most likely.):
