Oy. Sorry to be a bit late on this catch, but I got a note from some of our Tour to Tanglewood Roadskater.net team, saying they were off to the Nationals. I didn't follow up and they didn't tell me how to watch, but I finally got around to checking on it, and here's the info.

I haven't looked at results so I don't know how they did. I missed a lot of it but the relays are today (Thursday) and there are some solo races left too, at least in the novice inline division. The quad speed events are yet to come, and that could be fun to watch too.

2005 A2A Journals

In 2005, several iterations of the A2A took place. The club version was the Outlaw, and three Roadskater.net skaters did the course on the originally planned day, calling that the Sidekick. Another Roadskater.net member provided support. The effort was to make sure that there was a 24th Anniversary Edition, and the two groups each tried to ensure that by skating the course for 2005. Other successful attempts followed the Outlaw and the Sidekick.

2006 A2A Journals

In 2006, the weather was light rain before the event, wet roads in the first thirty miles or so, with sunshine most of the day. The temperature in Atlanta was 60 at start time, rising to 74 by noon, reaching 80 by 2 pm and 82 degrees by 4 pm. Winds were light in the morning and from the south, rising to around 10 mph from the west at midday, dropping then peaking again to 10-12 in midafternoon from the north. A2A Athens to Atlanta Roadskate 2006 Photos

Hey everyone. My photos are up. I may put some comments here later. As usual there are few photos from the last half where it is more hilly more consistently and where it is not, it is more urban and congested. Of course if I want great photographs I'll probably have to not skate, and if i want to skate great, I'll probably have to not take my camera and batteries along to distract me! In any case, here are the photos and I hope you find some you love. Maybe soon we'll have photos integrated into the site, but I didn't want to hold up the photos for that. Here they are:

Post A2A 2006 All Safe Plus Photo Links

OK we are all safe I think, all of us Roadskater.net folk, and others we know. Nobody has posted here probably because we're all catching up on rest, reading other people's posts, or editing photos we took. Roadskater.net picked up some great publicity I think due to the fact that Erica listed us as her team. Whether or not this ever happens again, it was a joy to see a Tour to Tanglewood veteran take the big prize, or at least to hear of it. There are many stories to tell, and though I had my worst time ever it was one of the best times doing it. I can't recall an A2A I didn't love.

It looks like Tyler Hamilton is back in form at least partially, set to have done his time two days before the World Championships. He won a tough 7.6 miler at Mt. Washington, which I guess doesn't prove much, but is better than not winning my age group even in tiddlywinks.

 Friends,

As you might know, our own Ashley Mann from Asheboro, NC has made the marathon squad in the US World Team and is competing in the 2006 FIRS Speed World Championships in Korea. Many of you may know Ashley from the Tour to Tanglewood 2005 where she demonstrated her true spirit by helping fellow skaters finishing the course and demonstrated her strong skating by sticking with the lead pack.

You might also know that USARS does not cover all of the world team skaters' expenses, expecting that team members raise the money or pay from their own pocket. For this reason, the Ultimate Speed Skating team has created a donation page that allows you to support Ashley in her quest for victory in the 2006 Champtionships. You can access the page here: http://www.ultimatespeedskating.com. Please know that any donation will make a huge difference!!!

Also, you can help Ashley by buying Ashley's trading cards and the 2007 Skating calendar here: http://www.sendthebest.org/tradingcards%202006%20World%20Team.html
