Here's some info about a surgical procedure performed by an Italian doctor to halt MS. The procedure unblocks restricted bloodflow from the brain in MS patients. 2 years later, 73% of those who had the procedure (65 people) showed no symptoms of MS!!

Obese Women Age 18 to 20 Found to Have Over Twice the Risk of Developing Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

0

A new study finds interesting information on the time of life that obesity may affect a woman's chance of developing Multiple Sclerosis. In studying data from 200,000 women over 40 years, researchers found that obesity in late adolescence and early adulthood (18 to 20 years old) doubled the chance of developing muliple sclerosis later in life.

...a surprising finding was that the results showed a significant link to increased MS risk only from obesity during adolescence, but not during childhood or adulthood.

Multiple Sclerosis News: Early Smoking Bad, Prolonged Breast Feeding Good for Mom to Stave off Relapses

A couple of recent reports of preliminary research or small studies are interesting. Much research seems to involve early age factors in developing multiple sclerosis later. In this regard, a study from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine indicates that those who started smoking before age 17 had a higher risk of getting MS...

Multiple Sclerosis Patients' Own Stem Cells Might Reverse Early Stage MS, plus more MS news

I found some Multiple Sclerosis news in the right sidebar worth noting.

First is a finding that researchers in a small study...

...appear to have reversed the neurological dysfunction of early-stage multiple sclerosis patients by transplanting their own immune stem cells into their bodies and thereby "resetting" their immune systems.

Multiple Sclerosis: Many Scars Damaging Nerves and How and Why You Can Help with Treatment and Research

The party's over. Part of it was canceled by the Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hanna. We still skated and rode and had a great time!

However, while the Tour to Tanglewood for Multiple Sclerosis was delayed and shortened and is now over, for everyone with MS--and everyone who cares for them--the disease goes on.

So we need to keep going. Let's help them. Will you help me help them?

Come out and skate or cycle up to 100 miles with us on September 6th & 7th 2008 to benefit those suffering from the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis. After Saturday's skate/ride from Volvo Trucks North America in Greensboro to Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, hang out and mingle with other event participants: eat, drink and be proud of yourself for skating that far. Camp out at the campsite or in a nearby hotel room for much-deserved sleep, wake up next day and give your body another great workout skating (or cycling) back to Greensboro for lunch!
