I thought I had already set this up as an event this year. Must not have!!

Tour de Kale

It's this coming weekend: June 20th 2009. Distance options: 25K, 60K, 110K, & 125K.

Wheelchair-bound after a skiing accident some years ago, Kale organizes this event in his name every year for local charity, specifically individual recipients, whose lives have been devastated by various horrifying causes none of us would like to experience. The main bike ride distances are on Saturday morning, but there is also a night run on Friday.

The ride follows a beautiful, hilly course with views of the Uwharrie National Forest. Most of the (very fast) downhills have run-outs with few side streets to worry about. As with Tour de Lions, the whole community comes together to help out in this event, which makes for generally friendly motorists and much SAG support!

Barring rain or some other emergency, two or three of us may skate it this year. Anybody else? Kale always makes a point to find us and tell us to bring more skaters the next year!
