Tuesday Post-Birthday Skate At Country Park Greensboro

My birthday, July 21st, will be set in asphalt & urethane on the morning of July 22nd as I plan to skate my age in mileage. No huge deal to most of you on here, but it will be my longest skate of the year and the second longest of all time. The plan is to start at approx 8:00 am and go till my goal is reached. Country Park, being the hilly little beast that it is will necesscitate a s-l-o-w pace, prob. in the 10 to hopefully 11 mph range. If more speed comes, I'll celebrate the miracle and welcome it, if not, I'll just enjoy the view, all 36+ times.

IF anyone would like to join me for whatever distance, it would certainly be most welcome, I realize this is working, or in at least one case, sleeping time, for most of you, so if no one shows, it's totally understandable.

Looking forward to the T2T trainer this weekend as well, hopefully my new Forerunner 305 amd Flash-Flo Camel-Bak will have arrived to make it a little nicer.

Best,

Jack

Something to celebrate!

Great idea for a birthday tradition, Jack, and this is indeed something to celebrate.

By the time you're 87, A2A will be a breeze. Actually, you could do A2A no problem right now.

Ooh an Early Tuesday Start

Hmm. You know I like these long distance drudgery things, but 36+ laps, creepers that's 35+ chances to quit! Still I'd love to be there. We'll see if I can get enough work done to be worthy. Plus I've a grand niece to visit. Hope I can make it to your post birthday skate. If not, I'll be thinking of you certainly. Glad you got the 305. I think you'll really use it a lot and love the data and how easy it is to use the information.

Jack's Birthday Skate was a Success (plus George Harrison's Sun)

I won't give away any details yet, but I talked with Jack and he considers his birthday skate a success. I was unable to make it because of work-induced sleep (yes that's what I said, but I just mean I stayed up too late working to make it to Jack's twice revised start time). I might have made the original 2pm time but that would have meant a much hotter time of it for Jack. Congrats on a successful outing, Jack, and happy birthday. It is wonderful to see you so happy about skating and so relaxed about the parameters involved. In the shortest days we'll remember these long days fondly. Yes it's true we could get out but it's a lot harder when it's dark early and late, even if cold made no difference! So we'll hang on for an echo George Harrison's song to get us little darlings through the long cold lonely winter. (We miss you, George, for the quiet light of inner peace and music you sought, showed, shared and encouraged.)

My Sweet...Jelly Babies

At the height of Beatlemania, George mentioned a fondness for Jelly Babies in passing, and was subsequently bombarded with them on stage, in the UK, at least. So here I sit, agreeing with George, addicted to the things and wondering how many packets of them I can cram into my suitcase to bring back to the US for training ride snacks. No fat, extremely easy to chew, in fact you can chew about 6 of them pretty easily at one time. I just haven't been able to figure out the breakdown of the "GDA" (Guideline Daily Amount) on the back of the package yet. They are manufactured by Bassetts.

You bet your GDA I want some Jelly Bellies...Jelly Babies

Funny about the Guideline Daily Amount. Lots better than Minimum Daily Requirement. I've been into the Atomic Fireballs since the last of the protein was erased from my shelves...except for tuna. The larger, hotter, style provide that sugar drip and mouth zap and maybe some water for the eyes now and then when runnin' down the road. Haribo Gold Bears (gummi bears) sure are fine, but unless frozen in advance along with the fig newtonians they mushmeld and are indiscrete (yes i meant that way). It's fun to think about skateysugarfood!
